Concept

Green building, refers to a structure and using process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition. In other words, green building design involves finding the balance between homebuilding and the sustainable environment.

Significance:

Green building is a trend of architecture development. For developers, green building assessment is able to promote the image of enterprise and increase the occupancy rate and commercial returns. At present, those international enterprises that uphold advanced commercial operation concepts, keen on building up their corporate images and social responsibility through green building assessment.

LEED(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design):
LEED is derived from Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Building Rating System. Developed by the US Green Building Council, LEED is a framework for identifying, implementing, and measuring green building and neighborhood design, construction, operations, and maintenance. It is the soundest and most influential assessment criteria with the widest use. LEED is a voluntary, market-driven, consensus-based tool that serves as a guideline and assessment mechanism. LEED-certified buildings are designed to deliver various benefits, including lower operating costs and increased asset value, reduced waste sent to landfill, energy and water conservation, and more healthful and productive environments for occupants.

LEED Certification Process:
(1)Register. Fill in the register form and register the project on the website of GBCI, pay the register fee, and then the project is enrolled in the LEED online database.
(2)Prepare the documentation for application. Collect the information of project and calculate, prepare the materials of each indicator.
(3)Submit the documentation. Upload the whole documentation before the deadline of GBCI certification system, pay the certification fee, and then go through preliminary and final review.
(4)Through the reviews of documentation and technologies, amend and complement the report based on the LEED preliminary advice, and then hand in to GBCI again, finally get the certification result.
